Its beautiful levels are all conquerable solo, but become chaotic and hilarious when Mario is joined by Luigi, Toad and Princess Peach, and you find yourselves flipping every minute between jostling for coins and working together to get past a tricky series of pits and dawdling Goombas. This is excellent news, as this superbly colourful run-and-jump romp of a game is enlivened by more players. Super Mario 3D World sits somewhere between the two: the game is near-identical to the 2013 Wii U version, with a few necessary adaptations and the addition of a pandemic-friendly online multiplayer so you can play with your mates without hosting an illegal gathering. Despite recent reports of a "Switch Pro" in the works, however, Nintendo continues to deny it will release a new Switch model this year.Almost every significant game Nintendo made for its interesting but ill-fated Wii U console has found its way on to the vastly more popular Nintendo Switch, either as a rerelease or remake.
With that milestone, the console has now surpassed the 3DS in lifetime sales and is quickly approaching the Wii, Nintendo's best-selling home console to date.
The Switch itself, meanwhile, sold 11.57 million units during the holiday quarter, bringing its lifetime sales up to nearly 80 million. Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, the physical Mario Kart AR toy that players can control using their Switch, was also a big seller, moving more than 1 million units. Paper Mario: The Origami King sold more than 3 million units, while Pikmin 3 Deluxe sold 1.94 million, making it the best-selling entry in its series to date. Nintendo's other 2020 game releases were big successes as well. The current top seller, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, has sold 33.41 million units, which means Animal Crossing could conceivably surpass it before long. Animal Crossing, meanwhile, is already closing in on the top spot. U Deluxe, stands at 9.82 million units as of December 31. Number 10 on that list, New Super Mario Bros. Wii U ComparisonģD All-Stars' sales figures already put it within reach of Nintendo's top 10 best-selling first-party Switch games.
